Info:
solo double bass, some electronics.
The album offers concentrated, short and some slightly longer pieces.
Focused songs with clarity, with quite a lot use of the bow, featuring exploration of the sounds and possibilities of the bass, inspired by folk music textures and qualities, singing Pizzicato sections, harpy chords and overtones, mainly acoustic and solo, but with some overdubs and the use of subtle electronic effects.
The title "1" can suggest several things, and should probably really be called 50 on the occasion that young Eilertsen just turned 50 this year.
Is it because it's solo? Is it the first in a series of upcoming albums? Could it be the beginning of a Fibonacci streak? Or will it be with this one release? We'll see!
Bassist, composer and bandleader Mats Eilertsen is originally from Trondheim and educated at the jazz program at NTNU. He has been involved in a large number of recordings, composes for many ensembles and projects and has toured all over the world both with his own bands and with ensembles led by Norwegian and international jazz artists.
He has a particularly warm and lyrical way of treating the bass, steady and experimental at the same time, which brings it all together with an openness, determination and a constant search for new sounds.
He has toured with his own Mats Eilertsen Trio, as well as Håkon Kornstad Trio, Trygve Seim's "Helsinki Songs", The Source, Jacob Young Trio, Nils Økland.
